The Port Fairy to Warrnambool Rail Trail is planned to be up and running by the end of 2009.

- Jul - Dec 2007: Obtain regulatory approvals,
consult with stakeholders, finalise project
design & advertise work tenders
- Jan - June 2008: Commence and complete
works in the Port Fairy & Koroit township

- Jan - Dec 2008: Commence works in the rural
sections between Port Fairy & Koroit
Commence works in the Warrnambool City
section
- Jan – June 2009: Commence and complete
works in the rural sections between Koroit &
Illowa
Complete works in the rural sections
between Port Fairy & Koroit
Complete works in the Warrnambool City

- Jan – Oct 2009: Commence and complete works
in the section between Illowa & Merri River
- Nov – Dec 2009: Rail Trail fully constructed and
opened
Covering 37 kilometres of scenic rural landscape, the rail trail passes through farmland in Port Fairy, Koroit, Illowa and Warrnambool and is designed to showcase the rural scenery of the region.
The rail trail will pass through Koroit at the old Railway Station. The Station's main building has been undergoing restoration the past few years. The Goods Shed restoration are yet to begin.
